Fisher open house a chance to celebrate community

The new Fisher Elementary School was made possible by the community, so it was fitting that the open house at the new school building was a chance to allow the community to celebrate the accomplishment.

Fisher opened its doors to students in the new structure, built directly behind where the previous 1950s building stood as recently as June, at the start of school in August. The September open house gave an opportunity for the community to see the work that had been ongoing at the site for over a year.

The namesake of the building, William Fisher, remains the same from old building to new and Fisher’s grandchildren attended the open house, creating a special moment for those involved in the project.

Another interesting wrinkle in the evening was when Linda and Tom Young returned to the new school, having both been first graders when the original Fisher Elementary opened.

As some Lynden community members shared special moments from the old building, the rest of the visitors were able to see where Lynden students will now create their own new memories.
